In Rapid Pursuit

Most of you know that I work with the youth at church.  And, they never cease to amaze me.  Last year, Project Upendo was the huge dream of raising about $30,000 to build an orphanage in Kenya.  They ended up raising almost $90,000.  THAT IS AWESOME!  Well, they are up to it again.  This year’s project is QUENCH.

The average American uses 80-100 gallons of water daily… That’s more than three bathtubs full! Some ways we use water include:

-hand washing dishes- 4 gallons a minute
-dishwasher- 12 gallons per minute
-shower- 7 gallons per minute
– brushing teeth- 4 gallons per minute
– taking a bath- 36 gallons
– flushing your toilet- 5 gallons
– washing machine- 30-40 gallons per load

This year, America withdrew 408 BILLION gallons of freshwater EVERY DAY from surface and groundwater. This is more water than I can even imagine.

The goal of 410Bridge, the organization that we partner with which links churches like us with specific communities in Africa, is $1.3 million. That goal will completely solve the water problems for those 6 partner communities. Right now, there are hundreds of other youth groups around the nation that are doing the same thing we are doing, setting a goal and rallying a community to make a difference. Our goal is to raise $33,000 of that 1.3 million.  They are offering several ways to get involved.

THE EMPTY DISH – Each family is being asked to sacrifice one of their family’s favorite dishes this Thanksgiving and instead, place an empty dish on the table at the thanksgiving meal. Each family is asked – when they pray over their meal – to include these communities in Kenya and the Quench project in their prayer. Then at the end of the meal – to (as a family) place your financial commitment in that dish and bring it to church the next Sunday or mail it to the church marked QUENCH.

THE EMPTY GIFT: Each student in Crossings will be given coupons that they will be giving to as many friends and family as they like that will request that, instead of purchasing them a gift this season – to use the money they normally would use and give that to the QUENCH project. It is totally up to the teenager on how many people they
give these coupons to.

STUDENT SERVICE SPONSORSHIPS: Throughout the year – students will be doing community service projects. They are searching for adults who would like to sponsor teens as they do these projects. When a student serves – you sponsor them by making a donation to QUENCH.

THE ONE TIME GIFT – Self-explanatory

Once again, I am amazed at the ambitions of these students.  And, they daily teach me about a child-like faith in God and how he can move mountains!

“When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.

Hi Tracy,

Just wanted to say what a great job the kids did
last night. I feel sad thinking about the way we
waste water everyday. But I am glad also, because
I see the future before with our kids and I known
because of them it will be bright.
